True Arabica began with a simple curiosity: what makes a truly memorable cup of coffee? 

The answer took us back to India. 

Rather than choosing beans simply from a catalogue, we wanted to understand coffee at its source — the landscape where it grows, the people who cultivate it and the journey each bean takes before reaching your cup. 

So we travelled. 

Discovering India's Coffee Lands

India's coffee story stretches across dramatically different landscapes. 

From the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh to the Western Ghats of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, coffee grows in hill country shaped by elevation, rainfall, forests and diverse ecosystems. 

Much of India's coffee is traditionally shade-grown, surrounded by trees and often alongside other crops. 

These aren't simply places where coffee is produced. They are what give the coffee its identity. 

Our First Journey — Araku 

Our first origin journey took us to Araku Valley in the Eastern Ghats. 

Travelling through its hills allowed us to see first-hand where Arabica grows and to learn about the communities, landscape and history behind the crop. 

What began as a search for coffee became an appreciation for everything that exists behind the bean. 

That experience shaped the philosophy of True Arabica. 

Early 1900s

Araku's Coffee Story Begins

1898 — Planted in the Rampa Agency
Coffee is introduced to this part of Andhra Pradesh for the first time, in what was then the Rampa Agency of East Godavari district, the earliest recorded cultivation in the region.

Arabica Spreads Across the Hills

Early 1900s — Araku & Ananthagiri
Further plantings follow in the early twentieth century, as Arabica makes its way into the hill tracts of Araku and Ananthagiri. What began as an experiment starts to take root.

A Crop Shaped by Its Landscape

Grown by Adivasi Farming Communities
Over generations, coffee becomes part of these hills, cultivated by local Adivasi communities and shaped by the altitude, rainfall, shade and soil of the Eastern Ghats.
